Expecting Adam by Martha Beck
One of my clients - Jane A. - sent two books for me to read through her sister, Bonnie. I started with Expecting Adam and was so glad that I did because this true story is simply magic.
John and Martha Beck had two Harvard degrees apiece when they conceived their second child. Further graduate studies, budding careers, and a growing family meant major stress - not that they'd have admitted it to anyone. It was hard enough to admit it to themselves. As the pregnancy progressed, Martha battled constant nausea and dehydration. And when she learned her unborn son had Down syndrome, she battled nearly everyone over her decision to continue the pregnancy. She still cannot explain many of the things that happened to her while she was expecting Adam, but by the time he was born, Martha, as she puts it, "had to unlearn virtually everything Harvard taught her about what is precious and what is garbage."
Karen Wylie and I recently attended the International Gem & Jewelry show in Chicago. Karen came away with beautiful pieces. In the near future you will see many of those specimens in the form of completed work in the store. She will additionally have several of her new pieces available for you to select from on September 7th when she facilitates the 'Create Your Own Crystal Jewelry' event while I host the 'Crystal Therapy 1-Day Intensive' class.
The two photographs on the left show that I, too, acquired several beautiful pieces - carnelian, brecciated jasper, moss agate, fancy jasper, and sterling silver - that have large enough drill holes to fit over neck wires. These are available by the piece for you to design your own necklace. You will see the new display right when you walk in the back entrance. The stainless steel neck wires come in two sizes - 16 and 18 inch. The one shown in the photograph is carnelian and sterling silver on a 16-inch neck wire.

Frequently Asked Question Is it true that drinking wine instead of beer won't make a beer belly?
It is a common misconception that wine contains fewer calories than beer. It is simply not true. One glass of wine (5 oz.) contains about 130 kilocalories whereas one bottle of beer (12 oz.) has about 150 kilocalories. Therefore, wine contains more calories on a per-ounce basis. As a general rule, the sweeter the wine, the more sugar and calories it contains. By the same token for hard liquor; the higher the proof, the higher the calories.
Remember this next time when you are contemplating a second helping of alcohol: calories from alcohol tend to be stored as fat in the abdomen. So, if you drink alcohol on a regular basis (regardless of the kinds of alcohol), watch out for the beer-belly!
