Lavender Lavendula angustifolia, L. officinalis
Aroma Herbaceous and fresh, yet sweet, subtle and floral
Physical Healing Lavender offers a multitude of benefits and uses. It balances the mood, clears the mind, has a long tradition in skin and hair care as well as medicine and is used for many household solutions. One of the unique characteristics of Lavender Essential Oil is that it is not merely energizing or relaxing, but balancing. The scent of Lavender will rejuvenate and inspire a tired person, and relax, soothe and slow down someone who is stressed or tense. Harness the powers of Lavender to add balance and serenity to our increasingly hectic lives. While pharmaceutical drugs are limited to either stimulating or sedating a person, Lavender — like many other remedies offered by nature — is able to re-establish the person's balanced, harmonious, and natural state without the use of synthetic chemicals.
Lavender is beneficial for respiratory problems such as bronchitis, asthma, colds, flu, coughs, sore throat. Helps to alleviate headaches (massage a drop into temples and forehead). Lavender helps to strengthen the immune system and speeds the healing process, especially when used in bath and massage. Lavender has strong antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It is excellent for burns and wounds, insect bites/stings, infections, poison ivy and oak, skin problems, cold sores and athlete's foot. It may be used undiluted directly on the skin. When used with massage it helps to relieve muscular, arthritic and rheumatic pain.
Emotional Healing Lavender is one of the most gentle and versatile essential oils. It is soothing and calming to the mind. It eases insomnia, stress, worry, shock, depression, impatience. It is used to encourage security, gentleness, compassion, reconciliation, vitality, clarity, comfort, acceptance, awareness, and emotional balance.
Suggested Uses Use in an aromatherapy vaporizer for soothing, relaxation, or wooing sleep. Use drops in the tub to enhance relaxation. Massage, sauna, vaporizer (diffuser) inhalation, chest rub, hair and skin care, or as a spray mist.
Blends Well With Lavender blends well with almost everything. It is really nice with citrus notes and florals. Geranium and Clary Sage essential oils are related in character and make great blending partners.
