Kathiaka Designs Without any schooling in art, I have to believe that my passion is a gift. The name Kathiaka Designs was born in the memory and honor of my sister. Each design is as unique and individual as we are.
In 2004 when I was reframing a picture of me and my sister I found two drawings I had done in 1976—one in two colors and the other in black and white. My nephew Evan said, “Life isn’t always black and white, Aunt Kathy,” and he believed for some reason that I was an Artist. My nephew, Tony, started yelling throughout the house, “Aunt Kathy’s an artist!Aunt Kathy’s an artist!” I decided to pursue “Kathy’s an artist”, and my brother-in-law Rick asked, “Where’s Waldo?”As people started appreciating my designs and the fact that I did custom work, I am proud to say that my work is now displayed in children’s rooms, living and family rooms, dens, or wherever a room needs a splash of color.
I find peace and serenity within as I continue to experiment with different colors and textures. As I share my designs with more of my friends and others, I hear more and more, “Kathy’s an artist, Kathy’s an artist!” I was reflecting back to my sister who I lost in 2001, and I remembered that when we were little girls that whenever I would call her name, emphasizing each syllable, "An-dre-a ..." she would answer with equal emphasis, “What Ka-thi-a-ka?"
… Andrea now dances and lives in my heart every day so it was
only fitting that my designs would be in her honor and her memory.
My hope is that each design will dance off the page to you as my sister dances in my heart today.
