Aroma Flowery rose, fresh, sweet, soft, green
Physical Healing A "woman's oil", Geranium seems to have a hormonal balancing effect and traditionally has been used (blended with Clary Sage) to alleviate problems associated with menopause and menstruation. An essential oil expert, Gunther writes that Geranium gives adrenal cortex support when ovarian estrogen decreases at menopause.
Geranium are valuable skin care oils. It is helpful for bruises, cuts, ulcers, broken capillaries, dermatitis, anti-inflammatory. It is believed to balance sebum (making it the oil of choice for combination skin) and to keep the skin smooth and supple.
Emotional Healing To encourage solace, adjustment, regeneration, balance, assurance, tranquility, and steadiness, and the feeling of being cushioned, soothed, shielded, and mothered. The word that comes to mind when I think of Geranium is "balance" ? physically, but especially for its emotional effects.
Suggested Uses The balancing effect that geranium oil has on our emotions is often utilized in aromatherapy. Though geranium is distilled from leaves, its aroma and effects are comparable to such floral oils as rose and lavender. Humans are drawn to floral aromas because their pleasant scents can be uplifting and gently inspiring ? or evoke a sense of calm and tranquility. Here's one recipe for a balancing aromatherapy blend: 35 drops geranium 35 drops lavender 20 drops bergamot orange 10 drops rose
Put six drops of the blend and one ounce of water into an aromatherapy lamp and gently diffuse the relaxing aroma during times of stress. For a more immediate release of this tranquil blend, try dispensing it from a spray mister.
Blends Well With Clary Sage, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Sweet Orange, Peppermint, and Ylang Ylang III
