The Geometric Structure of Crystals

In the crystal kingdom there are seven families. Each family has its own geometric structure and molecular similarity, and each has its own lineage of crystals that form from the common geometrical lattice. Each crystal system has its own imaginary axis of rotation and different angles at which the axes intersect. The lengths of the axes and the angles between them define the crystal’s shape. The seven tribes of the crystal kingdom are:

Isometric System - Cubic
Examples include Fluorite, Lapis Lazuli, and Garnet

Tetragonal - Four Sided
Examples include Apophyllite and Wulfenite

Hexagonal - Six Sided
Examples include Apatite and Emerald

Trigonal - Three Sided
Examples include Ametrine, Tourmaline, and Aventurine

Orthorhombic - Lozenge Shaped
Examples include Peridot, Thulite, and Topaz

Monoclinic - Singly Inclined
Examples include Jade, Kunzite, and Moonstone

Triclinic - Thrice Inclined
Examples include Amazonite, Larimar, and Turquoise

The orderly way in which the atoms arrange themselves in any crystalline structure is what makes these material forms whole and complete unto themselves. Crystals are capable of receiving, projecting, refracting, and reflecting light — which is the highest form of energy known in the physical universe.

To learn more about the science of crystals as healing tools you would do well to read Crystal Power, Crystal Healing by Michael Gienger. A book that we carry at HolEssence, it is an excellent resource to keep in your reference library.
